Project Overview
This Software Requirements Specification (SRS) Document outlines the requirements for the “Smart Vitals” project. The Smart Vitals system aims to support individuals with care needs and dementia by enabling remote monitoring within their homes. This innovative approach leverages wearable medical devices, smartwatches, and other Internet of Things (IoT) healthcare devices. By collecting real-time health data of patients through these devices, the Smart Vitals system empowers clinical and care teams to remotely monitor the well-being of patients through web and mobile application, potentially allowing for earlier intervention and improved care management.
The Smart Vitals System goes beyond capturing and displaying real-time vital signs data. It expands its functionality to become a comprehensive patient management tool, including Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) capabilities. Authorized users, such as nurses and caregivers, can administer medication to patients directly through the Smart Vitals System. The system will clearly display medication schedules, specifying which medications need to be administered to which patient at the designated time. After administering the medication, users can seamlessly update the system with the time of administration, ensuring accurate and up-to-date medication records.
The project encompasses designing, developing, and deploying a secure mobile and web application for various stakeholders within the healthcare ecosystem. The system will seamlessly integrate with a range of digital health devices to collect and display real-time vital signs. Data security and privacy will be a top priority throughout the development process.
The Smart Vitals System offers a multitude of benefits. Improved patient care is at the forefront, as real-time access to vital signs empowers patients, doctors, and caregivers to collaboratively make informed decisions regarding treatment plans. The remote monitoring functionality of the system would help reduce unnecessary hospitalizations. Hospitals will experience streamlined workflows with improved data organization and accessibility for healthcare professionals. Additionally, securely stored health data can be used for medical research with proper authorization, fostering advancements in healthcare.
This project targets hospitals which can purchase licenses for the Smart Vitals system and grant access to a designated group of users, including patients, doctors, nurses, researchers, and approved family members. Following stakeholder review and approval of this SRS, the project will kick off with the formation of the project team.
